- Structured abstract: maximum 250 words, with Objective, Materials and Methods, Results and Conclusion.
- Length: maximum 3,500 words for the whole manuscript, excluding references.
- Title page: a short, informative title (consider including design and population), optional short running title, authors and affiliations, corresponding author details, total word count.
- Keywords: please consider MeSH terms.
- Structure: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Statistical Analysis, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Declarations.
- Introduction: what is known, what is unknown, the relevance, and the question; generally not more than 1.5–2 pages.
- Materials and Methods: start with an ethical approval statement, study period and setting; describe procedures so the study can be replicated.
- Results: report results without interpretation and avoid repeating information between text, tables and figures.
- Tables and figures: figures must be understandable without reading the manuscript; titles are placed below figures.

Reporting Guidelines
Authors are referred to the EQUATOR Network for reporting guidelines specific to their study design. Authors are encouraged to follow “How to Report Statistics in Medicine” (2nd edition) when reporting results.
